Ink Jet-Laser-Cell Phone Recycling Program - Residential Customers

Did you know that about 85% of all empty ink cartridges are thrown away? Over a million end up in landfills daily and don't decompose, even after 1,000 years! The other 15% end up in Guiyu, China and and become electronic waste (e-waste). Heaps of burned toner, inkjet cartridges, and other e-waste have turned this town into a toxic dump. Drinking water is trucked in due to high levels of lead and acid from the e-waste leaching into the Lianjiang River. It is controversial whether it's better to return e-waste to the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or send it to a remanufacturer. Unfortunately, 80% of e-waste collected by "recyclers" ends up in Asia.

What can you do? Recycle your home or office used inkjet cartridges, toners and cell phones responsibly and free of charge! Residential customers can drop off up to five (5) empty ink jet cartridges and toners per visit to the Ashland Recycling Center or the ASR office at 170 Oak Street. There is no limit on cell phones.

Ashland Sanitary & Recycling (ASR) has carefully chosen RecycleFirst from Loveland, Colorado, because of their commitment to environmentally responsible recycling with the toner remanufacturing and cell phone industry. None of our cartridges, toners or cell phones are disposed of in landfills or sent to Asia.

RecycleFirst accepts all cell phone makes, models, accessories, batteries, and chargers. Everything is recycled, regardless of value. Proceeds from this program support the recycling of compact fluorescents and fluorescent light tubes at the Ashland Recycling Center.
